I hate to ask you this. But could you lend me some money?

 

I'm sorry.

l've already spent all my paycheck except maybe twenty dollars.

 

You've gone through all your money?

I thought you were well-off.

 

False assumption! Moneys always burns a hole in my pocket.

정말 이런 부탁하기 싫은데 나 돈 좀 빌려줄래?

 

I'm sorry. l've already spent all my paycheck except maybe twenty dollars.

미안해. 나 20달러 정도 남기고 이번달 월급 받은거 다 써버렸어

 

You've gone through all your money? 네 돈을 다 써버렸다고?

I thought you were well-off. 너 잘 사는줄 알았는데.

잘못된 추측이야! 돈은 항상 금방 없어져.

[ step 3. 표 현 ]

 

 

1. I hate to ask you this. But could you lend me some money? 나 너한테 이런 부탁하기 싫은데 나 돈 좀 빌려줄 수 있어?

Could you~? 정중한 부탁 이지만 상황에 따라 상대방의 능력이나 상황 등을 고려하지 않고

                     일방적으로 부탁하는 뉘앙스가 있다.

Can you~?   직접적으로 상대방이 할수 있는지 없는지를 묻기 때문에 상대방의 입장에서 could 보다

                     좀 더 쉽게 거절할 수 있는 표현으로 볼수있다.

 

lend 빌려주다( ≠ borrow 빌리다)

ex) I was embrrassed to ask him to lend me money. 그에게 돈을 빌려달라고 하는것이 너무 창피했다.

 

2. I'm sorry. l've already spent all my paycheck except maybe twenty dollars.

미안해. 나 20달러 정도 남기고 이번달 월급 받은거 이미 다 썼어.

paycheck 월급

ex) I spend over half of my paycheck on my car. 나는 차에 월급의 반 이상을 쓴다.

except ~를 제외하고

 

3. You've gone through all your money? 네 돈을 다 써버렸다고?

go through 다 써버리다.

 

Now you're broke? 지금 한푼도 없다고?

broke -> penniless/with no money 무일푼의/돈이없는

flat broke -> absolutely penniless/ without any money at all 땡전한푼 없는(강조)

 

4. I thought you were well-off. 너 잘 사는줄 알았는데.

thought / knew 차이 

I thouht ~일 줄 알았는데 , 아닌 경우

ex) I thought I'd pass the test.(테스트에 합격할 줄 알았는데 떨어졌다.)

I knew ~ 일 줄 알았는데 , 맞은 경우

ex) I knew I'd pass the test.(테스트에 합격할 줄 알았고 합격했다.)

 

well off 부유한, 충분한, 형편이 좋은

ex) He must be quite well off to turn down the job. 

그가 그 일을 마다하다니 배가 부른가보네.( turn down 거절하다)

 

5. False assumption! Moneys always burns a hole in my pocket.

잘못된 추측이야! 돈은 항상 금방 없어져.

burn a hole in one's pocket. 주머니속에 불로 구멍이 타들어가다.

돈을 금세 써버리거나 못써서 안달난 경우에 사용하는 표현. 

 ex) I just got paid today! This money is burning a hole in my pocket!

나오늘 월급 받았어! 이돈 얼른 써버릴거야 !
